This issue's focus: How to efficiently get on the Reformer for Footwork

3.) YUP, the absolutely forbidden
straddling of the Reformer to then sit down.

This is a definite way to get "the glare", at minimal, from your teacher ;)

WHY? you ask? Well for one, it's a wide step over the Reformer and not easy for balance. But also, nearly all of your exercises on the Reformer will be done within the width of the Reformer demonstrating the intense control of this method. So why would we start be straddling over the Reformer setting our feet on the outside? And the other reason why we do not straddle the Reformer is

BECAUSE :)

4.) And lastly, sitting properly close to the footbar (one hip on the carriage, one off) will ensure that you don't lie back onto the shoulder blocks. While the blocks are padded, it doesn't feel good to hit one with your back or shoulder.

So there you have it, start your first exercise on the Reformer with your Pilates powerhouse engaged and awareness of your set up and proper placement on the apparatus.
