PILATES EMPOWERMENT by Kerry De Vivo Joseph Pilates has made my job as a Pilates Instructor very easy by creating an incredibly sound method of exercise. Every action is logical both in the progression of the workout and anatomically. During a workout where the focus is on precision, or during home practice, it is fascinating to pause and look at the nuances of the exercises. For example, in the intermediate mat exercise, side kick series, if you consider the natural external rotation of the leg, you'll understand why it's so challenging to remain turned out on the side kicks when the heels are together. You'll also understand why your instructor keeps asking for more rotation when your leg is in the air. If you have an exercise that you truly do not understand, feel very challenged in, or think "what do we do this exercise for?", then take the opportunity to discuss the logic behind the exercise with your instructor. It'll become more clear and therefore more enjoyable as well. |
