PILATES EMPOWERMENT by Kerry De Vivo
July 2011 Pilates Scoop/Newsletter
What Pilates exercise do you enjoy the most? And why? It's hard for me to choose, but here are a few favorites. On the mat, I love the saw. It's a great opportunity to work on spinal rotation and breath. On the reformer I love long back stretch. This is a high level advanced exercise that I was quite certain I would die from the first time I tried it. It took a while for me to be able to properly do this exercise, which is likely part of why I now like it so much. On the cadillac, I love push through front. This exercise really shows off integrated strength of the arms into the core. And on the wunda chair, I love the gravity defying exercise, the pull up. My favorite of the moment might be that old basic exercise Spine Stretch Forward (the subject of Amanda's article this month!!) It seems like every time I do that I find out something new about lengthening my spine and using my core.
